February 28 the talented Mr. Ripley"The talented Mr. Ripley" contains a plenty of great artors and artresses (Matt Damon，Gwyneth Paltrow，Jude Law，Cate Blanchett) which are in their growing period, while the stars bolster the movie and the movie itself digs out the gift of them.
Seven years later, I come across this fabulous masterpiece in a BBS and it turns out to be so fascinating that I can not help but hymn it. The gorgeous dandy played by Jude Law render as a vortex and icon and in this movie.By the way, I was witched by his Greek statuesque face, and he was the reason I download the movie. In the movie "Rebecca", the Rebecca had never showed up while she emerges and evanesces as a ghost. However, here Matt Damon leads the life of Jude Law after his death,which is classic rank and fashion -- faineant, go-as-you-please, swellish, extravagant. In a word, it is a dream. Many critics focus on the vanity and the desire of lordiness of Tom, however, they deliberately ignore the relationship between Tom and Dick. Vanity is a sin, though. In more subtle aspect of this tragedy, the dependance as well as the aspiration of love and affirmation of Tom results in the killing at the first place. "You're like a leech", unfortunately and actually, Dick is right. Seeking for a niche that already exists in the society, living in the style that is created and defined by trigs, and imitating the way others talk, write, even think. That is the gift of Mr. Ripley. He is so open to accept all the styles of music and loves every kind of charming people. For this angle of view, Tommy is still a kid, who is too young to realize what his life really should be. Just like me.
Dick Greenleaf is born a prince, cruel, selfish and dreaming. He bears keen insight to understand something true, however, as a boy he does not consider it in tolerant , generous and objective grown-up way. Therefore when Dick has interest in something, it will totally draw his attention , such as Jazz. When he guesses you are within something unusual to him and makes friends with you, you will feel warm like summer sunshine. When he feels boring, you would feel very, very cold. Once upon a time, I did something the same. Shame......
